Computer Users Group (CUG)

Meeting Times and Places

This group meets every Tuesday. On the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesdays they meet at the Betty Ehart Senior Center from 10 to 11:30 AM. On the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays they meet at the White Rock Senior Center from 10:30 to 12:00 PM. These meetings are primarily PC oriented but there is a Mac group which meets on the third Tuesday at the BESC at 8:30 AM.

The group discusses problems people bring to the meeting, new hardware and software that are on the market, bargins, and anything else computer related. The discussions are very informative. At times the discussions become quite technical but are always interesting. The meetings are open to everyone. Bring your problems, bargins and thoughts.

From time to time a guest is invited to speak to the group on a pertinent subject. Special meetings of the CUG will be posted on this web page. Please stay tuned.

Classes

(Posted 12/22/09) Tax help will be provided by appointment at Betty Ehart Senior Center, Los Alamos, on Mondays and Wednesdays between 8:30 A.M. and 1:30 P.M. starting February 1 and ending March 14, 2010. Starting in January, appointments may be made by calling 662-8920.

Public Service

The LRG Computer Users Group has also contributed technical expertise and funds to establish, maintain and upgrade the computer room in the Senior Center. They pay for and maintain the high speed internet connection for the entire senior center.

Teaching basic computer classes is a key part of the public service rendered by the CUG. Basic classes in computer usage are regularily taught. One of the most popular classes is a class in digital camera usage. Many of the CUG members also provide telephone consultation to seniors who are having difficulty with their computers. In some instances house calls are even made, free of charge of course. All of the classes and personal assistance are pointed toward helping seniors keep up with the rapidly advancing technology world.

An Open Invitation

Do you consider yourself to be computer literate! Come and join us. The discussions are helpful and lively and you will have the opportunity to help keep the computer room fully functional or help someone who only wants to be able to email their grandchildren. Love to teach? This is a great opportunity to put togeather a class on a subject that interests you and help some seniors learn something new. We will see you next Tuesday.
